NEW YORK - ShoWest has named Peter Brown, Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer and President, AMC Entertainment Inc. as "ShoWester of the Year," it was announced today by ShoWest Co-Managing Director, Mitch Neuhauser. The award presentation will take place at the Opening Ceremony of ShoWest on Tuesday, March 14th, 2006 in Le Theatre des Arts of Paris Las Vegas.
"With his deep commitment to National NATO and the betterment of the motion picture theatre industry, and for all he has done and continues to do to move our industry forward with incredibly positive results, ShoWest is honored to be able to single out the achievements of Peter Brown and AMC," commented Neuhauser. "With the impending completion of the merger between AMC and Loews Cineplex Entertainment, Peter is sure to reset the standards of excellence in the exhibition community which will no doubt benefit everyone, from the nation's moviegoers to the Hollywood community who are committed as well to providing the very best films possible."
The "ShoWester Award" each year honors an individual who has throughout his or her career demonstrated a dedication to the betterment of the exhibition industry and its causes. Last year Stephen Marcus received the "ShoWester Award." Previous recipients include T.G. "Teddy" Solomon, Philip Harris, III, Kurt Hall, Michael Campbell, Raymond and Joseph Syufy, Bruce Corwin, Jerome Forman, Bill Kartozian, George Kerasotes, Barrie Lawson Loeks, Lee Roy Mitchell, Sumner Redstone and Paul Roth.
Peter Brown is a native of Kansas City Missouri and a graduate of the University of Kansas. Brown began his career with AMC in 1990. After serving as the Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer from 1991 thru 1999, Brown was named Chairman and Chief Executive Officer and is the company's third chairman in its 85-year history.
Mr. Brown is currently an active member of several boards and sits on the Board of Directors of Midway Games, Inc., National CineMedia, LLC and he is the Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of MovieTickets.com, Inc. He also currently serves as a member of the Board of Trustees for Rockhurst High School
As an active member of the entertainment industry, Mr. Brown serves both on the NATO Board of Directors, and as a member of the executive committee. Mr. Brown is a member of the Advisory Board for the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation and is sits on Variety International's Movie Industry Advisory Council. He is also a past recipient of the "Salah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award," presented annually at ShowEast.
In addition to Brown's industry endeavors, he is also personally committed to the support of AMC Entertainment Inc. programs which include the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, De La Salle Education Center, Variety – The Children's Charity and the revitalization of downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
ShoWest 2006 will take place from March 13-16, 2006 at Bally's and Paris, Las Vegas. It will feature numerous screenings up upcoming major films, sponsored events, timely and informative seminars and the ShoWest Trade Show. An estimated 3,500 members of the motion picture industry are expected to attend. ShoWest, now in its 32nd year, is produced by the VNU Expositions Film Group.
