Tim McGraw Shines on AMC Theatres' Silver Screens

New alternative programming technology showcases talent of country music’s most prolific performer and the making of his new album

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (November 19, 2002) — AMC Theatres announced today an exclusive deal with Curb Records to digitally broadcast an on-screen documentary of superstar Tim McGraw. The 90-minute event will showcase the life and times of Tim McGraw and the making of his new album, Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors. In addition, selected music from Tim McGraw’s video library will be featured. The event will be screened in 26 AMC Theatres located in 21 markets nationwide Monday, November 25 at 7:30 p.m. local time.

“It means a lot to me any time I can do something special for my fans,” said McGraw, “and I thank AMC theatres for making November 25 a special night for the launch of this record.”

The in-theatre broadcast will be the first public viewing of excerpts and interview footage from the upcoming album, which was recorded by McGraw earlier this year in the Catskill Mountains of New York. The country star also discusses select songs from his new album, scheduled for release Tuesday, November 26. Tickets for the screening are free and distributed exclusively by select country radio stations.

“We are extremely excited about bringing Tim McGraw to his fans in AMC’s industry-leading theatres,” said Peter Brown, AMC chairman and CEO. “We are committed to bringing fresh and innovative entertainment to our guests and I am looking forward to a fun night of music at the movies.”

The McGraw movie screening isn’t the first alternative program shown at AMC Theatres. Over the past two years AMC has featured a wide variety of digitally broadcast concerts and sporting events. McGraw’s film marks the first county music feature screened at AMC Theatres.

Helping coordinate the event are Movie Tunes and National Cinema Network (NCN). Movie Tunes is the world’s largest provider of music programming to 21,000 movie theatres while NCN, a leader in cinema media and promotions, created the digital distribution system (DTDS) to deliver the musical content.

Since 1920, AMC’s focus on the moviegoer has led to many innovations in the theatre business, including the multiplex, the cupholder armrest and MovieWatcherä, the industry’s premiere frequent moviegoer program. AMC is the pioneer of the megaplex, and has built more than 2,000 megaplex screens since introducing the concept in 1995.

AMC Entertainment Inc. is a worldwide leader in the theatrical exhibition industry. Through its circuit, the company has interests in approximately 382 theatres with 5,340 screens in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Hong Kong, France, and the United Kingdom.
